Meet the doctors currently training to receive the skills they need to save children in their own countries
Dr. Tamar Kartvelishivili, Georgia
Dr. Kartvelishivili graduated from Tbilisi State Medical University and then studied for a masters in healthcare administration and management. She is undertaking one year of anesthesiology at the Wolfson Medical Center.
Dr, Abd Elkareem Adas, Palestinian Authority
Dr . Adas is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at An-Najah National University in Nablus, he subsequently studied surgery at King Agdullah Hospital in Jordan. Dr Adas has been training at the Wolfson Medical Center since June 2012. He will soon complete his three years of training.
Dr. Yayehyirad (Yayu) Mekonnen, Ethiopia
Dr. Yayu is training to become Ethiopia’s first pediatric heart surgeon. He grew up in a small village in Southern Ethiopia and always knew he wanted to help people. He studied medicine and surgery at university in Jimma and became fascinated with the mechanics of the heart. When he spent time in a pediatric ward where a young girl with congenital heart disease could not be helped, Dr. Yayu made the decision to travel overseas and study to become the country’s first children’s heart surgeon. Dr. Ahmed Zarour, Palestinian Authority
Dr. Zarour is a graduate of Al Fateh University for Medical Sciences in Libya and has worked at Rafidia Hospital in Nablus. He has been training at the Wolfson Medical Center since June 2012. He will soon complete his three years of training.
Dr. Ala'a Hasan, Palestinian Authority
Dr. Hasan is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at An-Najah National University in Nablus. She is currently undertaking one year of radiology training at the Wolfson Medical Center.
Dr. Demeke Mekonnen
Dr. Demeke Mekonned trained in medicine, pediatrics, and child health at Jimma University. Before coming to Israel for training, he was a senior specialist in pediatrics and professor at Jimma University Hospital. Upon his completion of training, he will be specialized in Pediatric Cardiology.
Dr. Tolesa Waktola, Ethiopia
Dr. Tolesa trained at Hawassa University in southern Ethiopia. He is currently here training at Wolfson Medical Center to be a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist.
Dr. Habtamu Sime, Ethiopia
PEDIATRICS INTENSIVE CARE
Dr. Habtamu Sime trained in medicine, pediatrics, and child health at Jimma University. Until coming to Israel for training, he has been working at Jimma University as a clinician and instructor.
